Children Services to host annual UnGarage Sale with free items

LIMA — Allen County Children Services will hold its 18th annual UnGarage Sale, where the agency will give away clothing, toys and household items for free Thursday, Aug. 1 at ACCS, 123 W. Spring St., Lima.

The agency’s clients will be given the first opportunity to receive items from 9 a.m. to noon, then the event will open to the public from noon to 3 p.m.

Donations of clothing and household items are needed for the event. Donations can be dropped off at 123 W. Spring St. from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, July 26 and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 29 and Tuesday, July 30.

Lima Baptist Temple volunteers will again help organize the items and help people find items on the day of the event. The Lima Police Department will again serve grilled hot dogs, chips and drinks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A news release from the agency said last year, the police department gave away 340 hot dogs.

West Ohio Community Action Partnership will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to register children for Head Start and Early Head Start. Parents will need to bring their ID, SNAP card and 12-month proof of income or if on SSI or TANF along with the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card and INS card. If a child is under foster care/kinship care, proof of guardianship needs to be shown.

This event has grown each year and served 398 children and 214 adults last year, according to the news release.
