103rd birthday: Barbara Shapter

BLUFFTON — Barbara J. Hamilton Shapter is celebrating her 103rd birthday with family and a card shower. Cards may be sent to Barbara care of Bluelick Bible Church, 1138 W. Bluelick Road, Lima, OH 45801.

Shapter was born June 26, 1921 in Columbus to Robert Castle Hamilton and Pauline Arminda Hoover Hamilton. On Aug. 29, 1941, she married Alan R. “Jimmie” Shapter, who died Nov. 28, 2001.

She has one son, James R. (Betty) Shapter, three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A daughter, Diana Shapter Taylor, and a daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Crail Shapter, preceded her in death.

Shapter graduated from Columbus Central High School amd was a member of the Ethan Allen Honor Society. She has lived in Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, Michigan and Kentucky in a total of 21 different homes because her husband’s job required several moves in life.

Shapter is an avid reader, walker and puzzle solver. She has made dozens of beautiful quilts and is still doing that today. Shapter has been involved in the Lutheran, Methodist and most recently the Bluelick Baptist Bible Church. She is very interested in her family as well as the news around the world.
