Another Memorial and D-Day commemoration have passed. Memories surface of my uncle hobbling around on a heavy wooden leg from injuries suffered during the Battle of the Bulge.
The Associated Press, the New York Times, the Washington Post have all independently verified The Atlantic’s reporting that former President Donald Trump called American war dead, “losers.”
Upon the passing of POW and AZ Senator John McCain, Trump stated, “We’re not going to support that loser’s funeral.”
At his welcome ceremony at Joint Base Myer–Henderson Hall, across the Potomac River from the capital, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley gained an early insight into Trump’s attitude toward soldiers. Milley had chosen a severely wounded Army captain, Luis Avila, to sing “God Bless America.” Avila, who had completed five combat tours, lost a leg in an IED attack in Afghanistan and had suffered two heart attacks, two strokes and brain damage as a result of his injuries. To Milley, and to four-star generals across the Army, Avila represented the heroism and sacrifice of service to country.
Milley’s misgivings started during his first day on the job in 2019 when Trump reportedly told him “no one wants to see” wounded soldiers after he met Avila. Milley came to feel that Trump’s attitude toward service members was superficial and callous. Trump thought “it doesn’t look good for me” to be standing next to wounded soldiers.
If you consider yourself a patriot and support Trump, you may want to acquire some critical thinking skills and find the cult’s exit door.
