Alcohol, cannabis driving laws apply to boating

COLUMBUS — Just as it is illegal to drive a car drunk or high, the same laws apply to boating.

In Ohio, it is illegal to operate a boat with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher or to be under the influence of marijuana, and open container laws still apply on publicly owned waterways, according to the Ohio Division of Liquor Control and Division of Cannabis Control.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources wrote in a press release, “Patrols will be vigilant in monitoring watercraft for any signs of impairment and will take swift action to remove impaired operators from the water to prevent accidents and safeguard the public.”
