Equestrian training center fire results in 44 equine deaths

BELLE CENTER — A fire Saturday at Brant Performance & Priest Performance Horses, an equestrian training center located at 8755 state Route 638 in Logan County, resulted in approximately 44 equine deaths.

According to a news release from the state fire marshal’s office, the 60,000-square-foot structure was heavily engulfed in flames when first responders arrived and required multiple agencies to respond.

At the time of the fire, there were numerous people and between 40 to 50 horses in the barn. All of the people escaped safely and one person needed treatment and transportation to a hospital for burn injuries.

State fire marshal investigators continue to work to determine the cause of the fire.
