Lima farmers market kicks off at new location

LIMA — Summer is back in full swing as the Lima Farmers Market kicked off its first show of the season Saturday. This year marked a change for the market as it moved from downtown Lima to the UNOH parking lot off Cable Road.

“This is our first year with UNOH being affiliated,” UNOH Ag Business Teacher Madelyn Downing said. “Students from all different kinds of programs are helping me out with this today. As a collective group, we are the managers for the event.”

“We think it will be a great location,” Downing said. “It will be great having the new location and access to Cable Road. Being able to pair it up with our university and show it off a little bit is great, as well.”

Downing also said the market is creating special events every week. The theme of the opening week Saturday was food trucks. The market not only had various vendors but also food trucks for community members to enjoy.

“We have various baked goods,” Downing said. “All kinds of different produce companies. There are three or four different farmers who will be here consistently. We also have dog biscuits and a dog bow tie company who come as well.”

Wild Vine Farm has transitioned from visiting farmers markets to creating its own booth.

“I love interacting with the community,” Wild Vine Farm owner Addie Kaple-Sguerra said. “This is a dream where you have people coming and buying from the producer. It is all made and harvested by hand. People get to see the transparency of that.”

The farmers market will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturdays until Sept. 28 at 1309 N. Cable Road, Lima. For more information visit the Lima Farmers Market Facebook page.
