City holds final budget meeting

LIMA — The city of Lima held its third and final budget meeting Thursday night, getting a final picture of what each department anticipates it will need as far as funding for 2024.

The city’s finance committee heard from the finance department, the housing and neighborhoods department, the auditor’s office, human resources, building and zoning, taxation, civil service, healthcare reports and miscellaneous reports.

The finance department reported a $245,572 budget and requested $255,644 for 2024.

The taxation office reported $1,357,867 for its 2023 budget and requested $1,549,901 for this year.

The city’s human resources reported a $238,474 budget and asked for a $334,094 budget for 2024.

The auditor’s office reported a $555,748 budget and asked for a $695,649 budget for the year.

The civil service department had a $92,431 budget and requested $143,602 for 2024.

The housing and neighborhoods department reported a budget of $698,070 and requested $1,282,002 for 2024.

Council president Jamie Dixon said that he was impressed how smoothly the meetings went and how invested the public was in them.

“We had five or six people from the public at every meeting and to me, that lets me know that, like the mayor says, ‘We’re better together’ and we can do it,” he said.
