Robbers target Kay Jewelers in Lima Mall in midday heist

LIMA — Robbers smashed jewelry cases and grabbed valuables during an incident Tuesday afternoon inside the Lima Mall.

Kay Jewelers, just inside one of the main entrances to the mall on Elida Road, was the target of the thieves, according to a press release from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office received several 911 calls at 12:41 p.m. regarding the robbery.

Four masked, Black men entered the jewelry store, armed with hammers. They proceeded to smash display cases and remove the valuables, putting them into bags. They were inside the store less than a minute, according to surveillance footage provided by the sheriff’s office, before mall security arrived.

While fleeing the scene, one of the men brandished a gun and pointed it at a security guard but did not fire before escaping.

No arrests had been made yet as of 3 p.m. Tuesday, and no one was injured during the incident. The Lima Mall no longer has a threat inside it, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office didn’t disclose the approximate value or types of the jewelry Tuesday afternoon.
