Roundup: St. Henry defeats Coldwater in Division III volleyball district final

KALIDA — St. Henry defeated Coldwater 25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23 to win Wednesday night’s Division III district final.

The Redskins will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, against the winner of Thursday’s Crestview-Leipsic match.

CONCORDIA, Mich. — Patricia Blazquez had the University of Northwestern Ohio’s goals with Minni Laukka and Patricia Gomez Nogueras each providing an assist and teammate Sophia Eisner making three saves.

Manchester 2, Bluffton 1

BLUFFTON – Bluffton University scored four minutes in, but Manchester used a tally in each half to knock off the Beavers 2-1. Bluffton capped off its 2023 campaign with a 3-11-3 mark overall, including 1-6-2 in the Heartland Conference. Manchester improved to 2-14 and 2-7 in the HCAC.

The home team needed just 4:05 to go up 1-0 when freshman Mya Vernon connected with Alyssa Kester for the junior’s sixth goal of the season! Bluffton sported an 8-3 edge in shots during the first 45 minutes, but a Grace Papazoglou tally in minute 20 left the match tied 1-1 at halftime.

It was still knotted when Elaina Halferty found Jada Carter and her header found the back of the net for what turned out to be the game winner with just under 13 minutes to play.

Bluffton finished with a 15-8 edge in total shots, including 10-6 on frame. The home team forced two more corner kicks (7-5), but it was also called for two more fouls (9-7).

Nina McGinn went for broke in her final match, firing away with a team-high five shots, three on frame. Junior keeper Brielle Collier chipped in with four saves for the Beavers.

LIMA — Tomas Echevarria had three goals and an assist, Moritz Guettel had two tallies, Jovaunn Ramos had a pair of assists, Michele Forapan, Diego Cerezo and Corey Brouard each had a goal and Ross Synnott made a save in earning the shutout in goal.

ADA — Ryan Sommerfeld had two goals, Colin Gottron and Joe Roberts each had a tally and Ryan Parker, Will Shaffer, Enzo Bordogna and Brenden Gervers each had an assist for the Polar Bears.

ADA — Ohio Northern got 16 kills from junior Erin Wagner in a 25-13, 25-21, 25-20 victory against Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference encounter at the ONU Sports Center.

With the victory, ONU clinches a home match in the quarterfinals of the OAC Tournament on Nov. 7.

Senior Ava Ehlinger had 8 kills. along with 6 blocks and 13 digs.

Junior Rachel Jennings had a team-best of 19 digs.

Junior Grace Conrad had a team-best of 19 assists and Caroline Hensley followed with 14.

Manchester 3, Bluffton 1

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Bluffton University volleyball team took its first set in Heartland Conference action, but Manchester University won the final two on the way to a 26-16, 19-25, 25-14, 25-19 victory Wednesday night. Bluffton slipped to 5-21 overall and 0-6 in the HCAC, while the Spartans improved to 15-7 and 5-1 in the conference.

Kasey Sager and Jenna Woods battered the Spartans with nine kills apiece. Sager hit a whopping .353 and added five blocks. Bekah Pack and Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) chimed in with seven and six kills, respectively.

Freshman Mallory Fluharty (doled out 30 assists for the visitors. She also led the Beavers with two aces. Emma Organ picked up a dozen digs to pace the Bluffton defense. Pack was a monster at the net, stuffing the Spartans with six blocks, and Fluharty stuffed the stat sheet with four blocks.

LIMA — The Racers fell 22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-16.

Abigail Martin had 13 kills, Logan Thomas had 12 kills, Aliyah Saylor had 10 kills, Madelyn Hampton had 36 assists and 23 digs, Alli Lopez had 20 digs, Aubree Ricketts had 15 digs and Bailey Gregory had 13 digs for UNOH.
