Junior golf tour closes with Tournament of Champions

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Tyce McClain shot a 4-over-par 76 for the low round of the day and the boys 16-18 title at Monday’s Elks Invitational — Tournament of Champions at Shawnee Country Club.

McClain’s father, Ty, won the same event in 1985.

Boys Player of the Year Kyle Sutton defeated Sportsmanship Award winner Ross Dietz in a playoff for second after each shot 77.

Zoey Merritt was the girls 16-18 champ with a 78. Maddie Fleck finished second with an 85.

Boys 14-15 season champ Evan Altenburger won the division tournament Monday with a 78. Davis Maag was runner-up with an 85.

In the nine-hole competition, Alex Bellman won the boys 12-13 title with a 4-over-par 40 and also was the overall season champ. CJ Goffena finished second with a 42.

Marian Nagel was first in the girls 15 & younger competition with a 53 and also was first in the season standings. Lyla Brewer posted a 56 for second.

Girls 16-18 champion Kayla Watkins was the Girls Player of the Year.
