Lima men’s golf tourney tees off Wednesday

The Lima City Men’s Golf Championship will begin its annual five-day run on Wednesday and conclude with the championship matches in all flights next Sunday at the Shawnee Country Club.

The tournament, which had a championship flight, five senior flights and two open flights last year, has added a high school/prep division this season for golfers ages 14 to 17.

On Wednesday, all the senior flights will play a one-day medal play qualifier at the Bluffton Golf Club and all open flights golfers will play a qualifier at Hidden Creek.

The championship flight will play a qualifying round on Thursday morning at the Bluffton Golf Club and then the low 32 golfers will begin match play in the afternoon. The high school/prep flight will also have a qualifying round at Bluffton on Wednesday.

The senior flights will begin match play on Thursday at Hidden Creek and the open flights will start match play at Springbrook.

Friday, all flights will play at Colonial Golfers Club. Saturday’s semifinal matches and Sunday’s championship matches will be at Shawnee.

Zach Miller was last year’s champion. Michael Sarno won the First Flight and Josh Buetner was the Second Flight winner.

Tim Windau won the senior championship flight. Chad Smiley won the Senior Open 1 Flight, Jeff Harris won the Senior Open 2 Flight, Bob Moser was the Super Senior 1 Flight champion and Bob Hollar was the Super Senior 2 Flight winner.
