No one injured in Wapakoneta standoff

WAPAKONETA — Multiple police agencies responded to a standoff Thursday morning in Wapakoneta.

According to a release from the Wapakoneta Police Department, at 9:50 a.m. officers were notified of a threat being made regarding a “loss of life” situation, including what was described as a “suicide by cop” scenario. Upon arriving at the scene, officers set up a perimeter and attempted unsuccessfully to contact the male subject, who was inside a residence. The address of the residence was not included in the release.

The Auglaize County Special Response Team was brought in to assist with the situation. After an undisclosed amount of time, the subject’s mother also responded to the scene and was able to make contact with the subject and convince him to peacefully come out of the residence. According to the Wapakoneta Police Department, the male was then taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

“We would also like to thank the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office for their quick response and assistance with their equipment and manpower, as well as the Wapakoneta Fire Department and Wapakoneta Street Department,” the statement read.

No other details were released.
