WAR Wrestling starting 2023 with a bang

LIMA —WAR Wrestling will return to action for the first time in 2023 this weekend with Justice For All at Empowered Sports Center.

Doors for the 7 p.m. show will open for VIPs at 5:30 p.m. Saturday for what promises to feature a bevy of important matches for the local league.

“It’ll be family-oriented fun,” said promoter Thomas Williams. “I believe there are eight matches that night and our tag team champions Jimmy Shane and Will the Thrill taking on Ryan Michaels and Jacob Rose. And our ladies’ match will be champion Shawna Reed taking on Harley Fairfax for the title. And champion Aaron Williams will be taking on ‘Darkstar’ Matt Taylor. And then there is a match with Carson Drake against Paloma Starr.”

For newcomers to the Lima wrestling scene, Williams said that WAR will be bringing the same TV-quality performances that fans have come to know and love for the last 20 years.

“I would say if you watch wrestling on TV, it’s pretty much the exact same thing except that it’s based here in Lima,” he said. “And actually this show on Jan. 7 will kick off our 20th year.”

In fact, the January show is only the beginning of a year that will see the league celebrate it in a big way.

“We will have a huge anniversary show in May, and the next four shows are basically just a buildup leading to it,” Williams said.

Celebrating that anniversary means a great deal to the organization.

“We’ve been here for two decades,” Williams said. “We have a great fanbase. And we feel it’s a good affordable night out for people in the area. We have concessions, merchandise and posters. And it usually lasts about two and a half hours.”

Fans will be able to look forward to wrestlers coming from states surrounding Ohio, such as Illinois, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. The most important thing, though, is that the fans have a good time.

“It’s just a good night out,” said Williams. “There is no sound of boos and it’s just a good community event that’s been here a long time. We try to make it affordable for everybody and if you like professional wrestling it’s for you.”
