Unemployment rises statewide

OHIO —Allen County’s unemployment rate increased 1% from last month, according to statistics released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Allen County recorded an unemployment rate of 4.3%, with just 2,100 unemployed people on the rolls with a labor force of 47,400. Allen County had its lowest rate in May at 3.3% and its highest rate this year was in February when numbers came in at 6.0%

There were 2,302 jobs within 10 miles of Lima on Tuesday afternoon, according to the OhioMeansJobs.com search portal. Unemployment numbers have risen in all 88 counties in Ohio.

In the nine-county region, Hardin County led the rise with an increase of 1.7 % to now stand at 5.1%. Its lower labor force of 12,400 equates to 600 unemployed workers. Shelby County rose to 3.9% with 900 unemployed, followed by Logan County at 3.7%, 800 unemployed; Van Wert County at 3.6% with 500 unemployed; Hancock County at 3.4%, 1440 unemployed workers; Auglaize County at 3.3%, 800 unemployed; Putnam County 3.0%, 600 unemployed and Mercer County with an unemployment rate of 2.9%, 700 unemployed.

Rates in Ohio begin in Mercer County with the lowest rate of 2.9 % and end in Cuyahoga County with the highest rate in the state of 6.4 %.

Unemployment figures for counties aren’t seasonally adjusted.
