LIMA — Dr. JJ Sreenan kicked off his campaign for state representative on Wednesday, saying he got in the race to protect constitutional rights and freedoms.
“I am running for state representative because I am witnessing the erosion of our constitutional God-given rights and freedoms by left-minded politicians and educators,” Sreenan said in his mission statement. “This became particularly apparent during the COVID pandemic. While most citizens have chosen to remain silent and passive, I am choosing for the sake of my children and their generation to become involved in reversing the erosion of our rights and freedoms.”
Sreenan is running for state representative in Ohio’s 78th House District. Due to a recent change in the legislative map, both Allen and northern Auglaize counties will be combined into one seat. Sreenan is running against Republican Susan Manchester, who currently represents the 84th district but whose hometown of Waynesfield moved into the new district. They’re running to replace state Rep. Bob Cupp, of Lima, who cannot run again due to term limits.
The Republican primary for state representative is Aug. 2. Early voting for the primary begins July 6. The general election is Nov. 8, but there are no Democrats in the race.
Sreenan, a pathologist at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center for 26 years who practice at many other local hospitals, said his goal is to not only be a voice for healthcare but for education.

“I want to become more involved for the next generation,” he said.
His mission statement laid out his priorities.
“I am pro-life, pro-family and pro-constitution,” he said in his mission statement. “If elected I will fight to ensure we never again have a non-elected government bureaucrat determining which businesses are ‘essential’ vs. ‘non-essential’ or mandating experimental vaccines. I will decrease government regulation on our business. I will work to ensure school choice for our families and work to prevent the grooming of our children”.
Sreenan is a Lima native, graduating from Lima Central Catholic in 1983 and returning to Lima following pathology training in 1996. He serves as the director of graduate medical education at St. Rita’s-Mercy Health.
“My team has been instrumental in starting the residency program at St. Rita’s,” he said. “This residency has not only brought hundreds of young physicians to our area but also has improved healthcare.”
