Spencerville teen killed in car crash

SPENCER TOWNSHIP – A single-vehicle crash Tuesday evening left a Spencerville teen dead after his vehicle rolled over in rural Allen County.

Troopers were alerted at 8:31 p.m. Tuesday of the rollover crash on West Union Road near Kill Road, according to a press release from the Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Caden D. Meyer, 18, was traveling in a 1973 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on West Union Road when his vehicle veered off the right side of the road. The vehicle re-entered the roadway before going off the left side of the road and then overturning. The vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side on the south side of the roadway. Meyer, who the highway patrol reported was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Allen County Coroner Investigator Aaron Cuningham pronounced Meyer deceased at the scene. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Meyer was a 2022 graduate of Delphos St. John’s and Vantage Career Center, according to his obituary with Weber Funeral Home. He also volunteered at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Landeck, including as an altar server. He had been working as a supervisor in the feed department at Strayer Sow Farm in Spencerville.

His family said in his obituary he was “a young man with an old soul” who could fix anything and enjoyed hunting, fishing, Tug-a-Truck competitions and farming.

The highway patrol is investigating the accident. Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Spencerville EMS, the Allen County Coroner’s Office and H&H Funeral Services.
