The Wolbers enter the bowling hall of fame

One could win the mayoral job of Ada in a landslide the other would be excellent as first woman or first man of the town, depending who the couple would choose to run for the position. They have always been respected as a management team at Associated Plastics and they have raised their stock even more as the proprietors of revamped and revitalized Norada Lanes.

This coming Saturday Fred and Vickie Wolber will be honored by induction into the Lima Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

“I am honestly speechless, I never would have dreamt this ever would have happened.” said Vickie when we had the chance to speak regarding the honors that will be bestowed on her and her husband later on this week.

They are now entering year 15 as proprietors at Norada Lanes and like all houses in the community there have been some ups and some downs but she did agree that things certainly seem to be on the rise in recent years.

“I think the community knows that we are trying to reinvest at the lanes and that we try to invest in the community as well. Fred and I are very family focused and we do what we can to treat our customers like family as well.”

The two of them also operate Associated Plastics in Ada and it certainly helped in creating an awareness for many in Ada to get to know the fun loving nature of the two very Hall of Fame worthy individuals.

“We try to make things fun and it has helped us to be surrounded by some real good people,” Vicki Wolbler said. “We love the time that we get to spend with those who come to bowl.”

Vickie provided a special insight when teased about the legendary bus and limo charters to the LBA USBC Holiday Doubles tournaments.

“We used to squeeze everybody that we could into different vans.” Vickie Wolber said “Brad Burkhart always helped to make that happen and then we lost him. He was such a great guy, always smiling and helping others. Fred and I just decided that we had to do something to honor him. So each year now, we rent whatever vehicles that we need to get the bowlers to the event. It is our way of expressing our gratitude to the bowlers who help to keep us open.”

Like many my ties go back to the two of them and Associated Plastics, the Norada version impresses every bit as much.

They will be a great addition to the Hall of Fame and even the mayor’s office if that were to ever occur.

This Saturday at the Eagles should be a great time. Congrats again to Vickie and Fred and Brett Lee. It will be an honor to have this chance to hang out with you.

Michael ‘Sandbagger’ Moore continues to amaze.

Chris Loschetter outdistanced Ryan Ciminelli to capture the Autism Awareness K&R Derby PBA Classic this past weekend in Wapakoneta but ultimately Mike Moore won the moment and those served captured our hearts.

This tournament is a favorite of the professionals because they actually get to see where the funds raised by the event are allocated.

It is also real special to see the love that they pour out for my friend Mike.

This event was even more special as Loschetter and two other members of the Philadelphia Hit Men, Ronnie Russell and David Wodka rolled back into town on this past Thursday for added fun raiser.

Moore was one of the benefactors of the event as he has been selected by the state of Ohio to represent our sport in the Special Olympics in Seattle next July.

We have featured Michael in past articles but in case you may have missed it, he has already secured roughly 76 gold medals in his incredible career. The majority of those have been local, regional and state but he does own some national gold as well.

Our community will be well represented. They simply do not make them any better than the young man dubbed by this writer as the Wapak Icon.

The Lima Area Lanes are sizzling.

Unofficially we have had five 300 games in the community thus far this season in the LBA USBC.

Ian Wittkamp rolled his first this past Thursday and Jeff Zigler added one more to his resume on the same evening. Wittkamp rolled his at Westgate and Zigler did well at 20th.

The remaining three were rolled somewhat earlier by Dean Meyer and Bob Edwards. Meyer rolled his at Southgate while Edwards has rolled perfectos at 20th and Westgate.

T’Sean Peters tempted the record books at 20th rolling an 846. He was within 11 pins of the house standard set by Frank Testa.

Interestingly enough there was a post on social media about the sets of Peters and Testa where an individual shared that 20th must be a tough house if 857 was the house record. I did not recognize the name but it got me wondering what the standard was in that persons hometown.
