Roundup: Lima Senior girls, Celina boys each third at Division I track and field district meet

FINDLAY — The Lima Senior girls and Celina boys each finished third at Friday night’s Division I district track and field meet.

Lima Senior (86 points) finished behind Lexington (111) and Madison Comprehensive (87). Celina (63) trailed Ashland (116) and Lexington (64)

Lima Senior’s Suerethia Henderson set a stadium record in winning the 100 meter dash in 12.04 seconds. She also won the 200 (25.02) after setting a stadiuim mark of 24.55 in the preliminaries Wednesday. The 800 relay team of Deji’ona Shurelds, Henderson, Corion McDonald-Gordon and Elyse Kelley, which set a stadium record of 1:42.87 in the prelims, won the final in 1:45.47. McDonald-Gordon finished second to Henderson in the 100 with a time of 12.73. The Lima Senior 400 relay team, which set a stadium mark of 49.36 in the prelims, was disqualified in the final.

Lima Senior’s Briana Wright won the discus (127-10) and shot put (35-05.25).

Shawnee’s Faith Baxter won the 400 (59.31) and was a member of the winning 1,600 relay team that included

Lauren Baxter, Alaina Behnke and Liana Rodriguez.

Celina Tyler Ross won the discus (149-02) and shot put wiht a stadium record distance of 55-09.25. Shawnee’s Christian Ford won the 100 (11.11)and 200 (22.11). The top four in each event advanced to the regionals. For complete meet results go to the round at LimaScores.com.

Friday’s postponed Division IV district championship game between Minster and Crestview in Coldwater will be played at 4 p.m. today.

Russia’s Hunter Cohee was named player of the year and was joined on the first team by Dylan Albers (Fort Loramie), Zach White (Anna), Jacob Francis (Jackson Center), Jared Middendorf (Fort Loramie), Derek Coverstone (Anna), Dion Puthoff (Russia), Howie Ludwig (Houston) and Carter Mescher (Fort Loramie).

Games postponed

Friday’s postponed Division IV district championship games between Minster and Parkway and Ada and Columbus Grove have been rescheduled for today. Minster and Parkway will be played at 10 a.m. at Wapakoneta and Ada and Columbus Grove is set for 11 a.m. at Elida.

Varsity L event

LIMA — The Lima Senior Athletic Department will honor all Lima Senior High School athletes who have earned a varsity letter this year Thursday.

Lima Senior saw 228 athletes earn varsity letters this year.

Lima Senior and Youngstown State University basketball standout Indiya Benjamin will be the guest speaker.

The Varsity L Banquet will begin at 6 p.m., with the awards ceremony starting at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. This year’s team captains will also be honored.

Limaland canceled

LIMA — Rain forced the cancellation of Friday night racing at Limaland Motorsports Park.

The 19th annual Memorial Cup featuring the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprints, K&N Filter Modified, and Bud Thunderstock. Warm-ups at 6:30 pm and racing at 7:30 p.m.

NAIA Championships

SILVIS, Ill. — Behind a team score of 279, tying with champion Oklahoma City for the best of any team in the final round, the University of Northwestern Ohio climbed three spots to finish sixth as the NAIA Championship concluded at the TPC at Deere Run.

Two Racers shot under par on the day as Gonzalo Garcia-Parada carded a 68 on the par 71 course while Reece Blair shot a 69. Both finished tied for 22nd overall with a four-round score of 288. Lewis Scott (295) tied for 55th, Kaleb Kuhn (299) tied for 63rd and Sebastian Sundell (300) tied for 68th also for the Racers, who finished with a four-round total of 1,156, 29 shot behind Oklahoma City in the 17-team field.

Series pairings

UNOH will open play against Freed-Hardeman (Tennessee) at the 2018 Avista-NAIA World Series at 6 p.m. Friday.

The 62nd World Series takes place at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho, and is a 10-team, double-elimination tournament.

The winner between Freed-Hardeman and UNOH will face No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett at 6:30 p.m. May 26.
