WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — The University of Northwestern Ohio baseball team is one win away from advancing to the NAIA World Series after defeating Point Park 13-5 in the winner’s bracket final of the Williamsburg Bracket on Tuesday.
Dayfran Ortiz finished with three hits, including the two home runs, drove in five and scored twice and Jack Barrie also had three hits along with three runs scored and two RBI. Blake Maines, Felix Correa and Junior Gomez each had two hits, with Maines scoring twice and Correa driving in two.
UNOH (41-18) advanced to the finals starting at noon Wednesday, where the Racers will face either Bryan, Cumberlands or Point Park. UNOH needs a win to move on to the NAIA World Series, which takes place May 25-June 1 at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.
HCAC recognizes
Bluffton players
BLUFFTON — Bluffton’s Jacob Latkofsky has been named the HCAC’s Freshman of the Year and was joined on the all-conference first team with fellow freshman Garrett O’Reilly. Junior Dante D’Andrea was a second team selection and Colin Gregory received honorable mention recognition. Senior Ryan Golden was named to the Sportsmanship Team.

ADA — Ohio Northern has six named All-Ohio Athletic Conference .
Juniors Luke Klinehoffer and Caleb Thomas and sophomore Josh Mohr were each named first team All-OAC, while senior Hayden Shenefield and junior Austin Frey were named to the second team and sophomore Nate Bye garnered honorable mention honors.
Thomas was also named to the Google Cloud First Team Academic All-District 7 Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America for his efforts on the field and in the classroom this season.

New Bluffton coach
BLUFFTON — Aaron Krepps from Ada has been promoted to Bluffton University head coach. He replaces Denny Dorrel who resigned after four season to become the Athletics Director at Franklin County High School, his alma mater, in Brookville, Ind.
“I am very happy to announce that Aaron Krepps, current offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, has been promoted to the position of head coach of the Bluffton University football program,” said Phill Talavinia, athletics director in a news release. “I appreciate Denny’s approach to this transition as it provided us time to have important conversations with the coaching staff. We want to ensure that there is a smooth transition and keep the momentum going that the team has built these past four seasons. We recognize that the Bluffton football family is critical to the team’s success in the year ahead. We will be searching for a new assistant coach to replace the open position.”
Krepps joined the Beavers last year after two seasons as an assistant at Ohio Northern University where he coached the receivers and served as special teams coordinator for the Polar Bears.

Makin has record
season at Bluffton
BLUFFTON — Gabe Makin, a freshman from Elida High School, set indoor and outdoor school records in the pole vault at Bluffton University on his was to the NCAA Division III national track meet later this month.
Makin had a best of 16 feet, 2 inches outdoors and 15 feet, 7 inches outdoors. He also won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title and set a league record of 16 feet, 1.25 inches earlier this season. The national tournament will begin May 26 at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

TIFFIN — Tiffin University’s men’s golf team qualified for the NCAA Division II national golf tournament in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, May 21-25 by finishing second in the Super Regional at the Findlay Country Club last week.
Tiffin shot an 868, four shots behind Super Regional winner Indianapolis.
Parkway high school graduate Jordan Bollenbacher, a senior, is a member of Tiffin’s team and shot 73-73-74 in the Super Regional.
This is the second time in the last four years Tiffin has reached the national tournament.
UNOH in 10th
SILVIS, Ill. — UNOH is tied for 10th at 7-over par after the first day of the NAIA Championships at the par 71 TPC at Deere Run. Keiser University is in first at 5-under par.
Reece Blair had the low round of 1-under 70 for UNOH to put him in a tie for 12th. Teammate Lewis Scott is tied for 21st after shooting a 71. Gonzalo Garcia Parada and Sebastian Sundell each shot 75 and Kaleb Kuhn finished with a 79 also for UNOH.

Macey Harder doubled for UNOH.
The Racers, making their first-ever appearance in the NAIA Tournament, finished the season at 31-14.

ONU trio honored
ADA — Senior Lynn Kelly, junior Ashley Ochsenhirt and freshman Sabine Worthoff were named All-OAC in voting conducted by the league’s nine head coaches. Kelly and Ochsenhirt were first team honorees and Worthoff was named to the second team.
