Roundup: Columbus Grove girls, Lincolnview boys win team titles at Elida Invitational

ELIDA — The Columbus Grove girls and Lincolnview boys won team titles at Tuesday’s Elida Invitational.

In the girls’ event, Grove had four of the top five finishers with Alyssa Ellerbrock finishing first in 19:28.8 followed by teammates Taylor Ellerbrock (20:42.4) and Erin Downing (20:47.4). Bath’s Charis Barnes was fourth (21:07) with Grove’s Sydney Witteborg (21:12.9), Lincolnview’s Madison Langdon (21:18.1) and Victoria Snyder (21:27.1), CG’s Leanndra Price (21:39.9) and Kenton’s Kierra Krohmer (21:40) and Sammie Unger (21:52) rounding out the top 10. There were 53 race finishers.

Grove finished with 19 points followed by Lincolnview (53), Bath (76), Kenton (99) and Ottawa-Glandorf (114).

Lincolnview finished with 23 points, having five runners finish in the top 10. Grove (76) was second followed by O-G (94), Elida (115), Kenton (146), Bath (159), Lima Senior (174), Ottoville (184), Pandora-Gilboa (230) and Allen East (278).

Ottoville’s Brendon Siefker won the boys race in 16:16.3 followed by Lincolnview’s Karter Tow (17:06.3), Jacob Keysor (17:33.6) and Alek Bowersock (17:42.6), Grove’s Grant Mumaugh (17:45), Lincolnview’s Devon Bill (18:10.8), Bath’s Vincent Abrams (18:24.7), Lincolnview’s Joe Sadowski (18:38.6) and O-G’s Brent Siefker (18:42.2) in a race that had 96 finishers.

Coldwater 4, Botkins 1

COLDWATER — Maura Hoying reached 100 career goals during her three-tally night. She also assisted on Emily Sudhoff’s score.

Kenton 3, Allen East 1

KENTON — Hannah Holland had two goals and teammate Sidney Plott and Allen East’s Madison Houston each had one.

Girls tennis

Elida 3, Bluffton 2

ELIDA — Singles player Annie Sayoto and the doubles teams of Kate Foster and Angalena Wright and Jiezel Purugganan and Madalyn Schomber won for Elida. Singles players Katie Wright and Lucie Fett won for Bluffton.

Lima Central Catholic 3,

Shawnee 2

Singles players Olivia Kesner, Anna Janowski and Morgan Chaney won for LCC. The doubles teams of Katie Clark and Sanjana Rajasekaran and Marley Evans and Ella Atkinson won for Shawnee.

OTTAWA — The host Titans lost 26-24, 25-15, 25-23. Carly Alt had eight kills, 11 digs and three aces, Kendra Kahle had 26 assists and three aces, Sydney Heitmeyer had three aces and Christina Tippie had five blocks for O-G (8-2).

Miller City 3,

Temple Christian 0

Kylie Berner had eight kills, Meggan Meyer had six aces and three blocks, Brittany Kuhlman had 14 assists and Abbey Schroeder had 22 digs for Miller City. Brittany Heather Goliver had four kills and eight digs, Anna Acklin had eight assists and Sophie White had 21 digs for Temple Christian.

Ada 3, Bluffton 0

ADA — The host Bulldogs won 25-19, 25-8, 25-16. Melina Woods had 27 kills, Olivia Alexander had 12 digs and Maddie Gossard had 22 assists for Ada. Ashley Eachus and Katie Prater each had six kills, Karis Wilson ahd nine digs and Aimee Ritter had 18 assists for Bluffton.

Allen East 3,

Delphos Jefferson 0

The Mustangs won 25-17, 25-12, 25-16. Abby Kennedy had 10 kills, Summer McCloskey had 39 assists, Kyra Clark had four aces and Anamya Truex had 10 blocks for Allen East. Jefferson stat leaders were not reported by deadline.

Crestview 3,

Columbus Grove 0

CONVOY — The host Knights won 25-16, 25-21, 25-16. Lexi Gregory had 16 kills, Abby Bagley had 31 assists and Lyvia Black had 13 digs for Crestview. Paige Bellmen had seven kills, Rylee Sybert had six kills and 13 digs and Carlee McCluer had 13 digs for Grove.

KALIDA — Kevin Hamburg had three goals and Colin Erhart and Matt Kehres had one each.

VAN WERT — Bryce Schroeder had two goals and O-G’s Drew Kuhlman, Connor Niese and Ben Schaub and Van Wert’s Eli Eager each had one. O-G’s Braden Fortman had three assists.

ELIDA — Logan Johnson, Riley Bartels, Jake Taylor and Seth Mahlmeister each had a goal and Noah Davis had a pair of assists.

DEFIANCE — Medalist McKinley (38), John Barker (42), Drew Bullock (43) and Jake Hutchins (44) combined for the winning score at par-36 Eagle Rock.

ONU receives

votes in poll

ADA — Ohio Northern received votes in the second weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, released Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (6-2) received 116 points in the poll, which is 19 fewer than the 135 they received as the No. 25-ranked team. ONU received the 29th-most votes in the poll.

Calvin (Mich.) topped the poll for the second consecutive week with 1,675 points and all 67 first place votes, Southwestern (Tex.) is second with 1,564 points and Wittenberg is third with 1,543 points.

UNOH finishes

second in invite

LONDON, Ky. — Caitriona Griffin tied for third and Brianna Baird was sixth as the University of Northwestern Ohio placed second at the Bill Sergent Invitational, which concluded with the final round Tuesday at the Crooked Creek Golf Community.

Griffin finished with a two-round score of 157, earning All-Tournament honors, while Baird ended up with a 160.

ONU sixth

WAUSEON — Junior Nick Anderson tied a career-low with a 1-under par 73 to lead Ohio Northern to a sixth place finish in the 13-team Jon Spiess Memorial Tournament at Ironwood Golf Course.

The Polar Bears (8-18 overall) finished with a 18-hole total of 311 on the par-72 course.

The tournament featured nine NCAA Division II schools.

Ohio Northern finished third of the five Division III teams, defeating Albion (Mich.) and Bluffton and falling to Defiance and Trine (Ind.)

Anderson tied his career-low round, firing a 35-38—73 to finish fifth out of 72 golfers.
