Real Wheels: A Roadrunner family

WAPAKONETA — Dan and Rita Heitkamp, of Wapakoneta, brought their Plymouth Roadrunners to the Westgate Charity Car Show, held in Lima in June.

Rita owns the 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner. She has owned the car for two or three years. The color is Surf Turquoise Metallic, and Plymouth only made 50 with that color in 1968.

Dan owns the 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner. He has owned it for six years. Dan’s car is painted Ivy Green Metallic.

Dan said he bought a new Plymouth Roadrunner when he got out of the service. He had one like it when he and Rita got married 48 years ago. When the family grew, they sold that Roadrunner. He found this 1969 Roadrunner in Wisconsin. The Heitkamps are lucky, as their son does all the work on their cars.

Both Dan and Rita said they enjoy going to car shows and connecting with people. There is a lot of reminiscing during the car shows, which they take pleasure in.
