Cosart named OAC player of the week

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University softball freshman left-hander Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career.

Cosart garners her first weekly accolade after she won four OAC games as BW swept three OAC doubleheaders last week. With its six wins last week, the Yellow Jackets vaulted themselves to fourth place tie in the OAC standings.

For the week, Cosart picked up her team leading sixth OAC victory and her team-best second OAC shutout. She made four appearances with three complete games with an earned run average (ERA) of 1.93. Cosart allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on 30 hits with seven strikeouts.

In her first season, Cosart has an overall record of 7-4 and a mark of 6-1 in the OAC. She has appeared in 15 games with 10 starts, eight complete games, two shutouts one save and a 3.11 ERA. Cosart has allowed 44 runs (32 earned) on 85 hits with 28 strikeouts in 72 innings pitched.

FORT JENNINGS — Ottoville’s Zane Martin fired a three-hit shutout while stroking out 13 and walked none. Offensively Martin went 1 for 3 with an RBI and Josh Thorbahn, Nick Moorman and Don Kemper each had hits. Brandon Wehri and Aaron Kloeppel each had hits.

Spencerville 11, Allen East 1

SPENCERVILLE — Spencerville’s Brady Nolan picked up the win after giving up one earned run while striking out 11. Offensively, Cole Market went 3 for 4 with a double and one RBI and Kale Lee went 2 for 4 with three RBI. Jacob Litsey was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Perry 12, Ridgemont 2

PERRY TOWNSHIP — Perry’s John Sawyer pitched five innings and struck out four and walked none. Offensively, Jay Money had a double and Austin Money, who went 3 for 3, had a triple. Arron Rush was 3 for 4.

Perry improves to 6-5 and Ridgemont falls to 4-9.

Crestview 3, LIma Central Catholic 2

CONVOY — Crestview’s Victoria Lichtensteiger pitched seven innings, allowed two runs, four hits, 9 while striking out nine and walking one. She improves to5-3. Offensively, Codi Miller, Lexi Gregory and Haley Speith all had doubles.

Hardin Northern 30, Pandora-Gilboa 0

PANDORA — Hardin Northern’s Haylie Spearman was the winning pitcher after going five innings while giving up two hits and striking out 10 and walking three. Madison Robson went 4 for 5 with four runs and three RBI. and Cassidy Deckling was 3 for 4 with four runs scored and two RBI. Shelby Alloway was 2 for 3 with three runs and three RBI and Quinn Stewart-Evans was 2 for 4 with three runs and five RBI. for Pandora-Gilboa Kaileigh Morris and Taylor Delruyelle each had hits.

Waynesfield-Goshen 5, Upper Scioto Valley 0

WAYNESFIELD — Waynesfield-Goshen’s Cydney Roberts picked up the win after pitching seven innings and striking out eight. For the Tigers, Cassidy Craig had two hits and Peyton Spencer drove in three runs. Kaylee Compston drove in two runs.

Miller City 11, Continental 9

CONTINENTAL — Miller City’s Kylie Berner picked up the win after going seven innings while giving up nine hits and six earned runs. She struck out five and walked one. For Miller City, Abby Schroeder, who had the game winning double in the top of the seventh, was 5 for 5 with a home run and a double. She drove in six and scored twice. Kylie Berner went 4 for 4, Megan Niese went 3 for 5 with one RBI and three runs scored. Makenna Lehman was 2 for 4 with a trible and two runs scored and Natalie Koenig hit a home run.

Shawnee 17, Kalida 4

KALIDA — Shawnee’s Maddie Brunner picked up her third win and Chloe Wohlgamuth had three doubles and Morgan Golden added two. Indian Shalon McNeal and Megan Spainhower each had triples and Lakin Georgoe had a home run. Taylor Zeller had a home run for Kalida.
