Lima man pleads guilty to gang-related shooting

LIMA — A 21-year-old Lima man who police say fired rounds from an automatic weapon into a Hope Street residence in what was believed to be gang-related activity pleaded guilty to a reduced charge in the case.

Marvin Bridges, 21, of Lima, was indicted in May of last year by a local grand jury on charges of felonious assault with a three-year firearm specification, a second-degree felony; discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premise, a first-degree felony; and improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation, a second-degree felony.

Bridges on Tuesday agreed to a negotiated deal with prosecutors that called for him to plead guilty to the felonious assault charge, with the attached gun specification reduced from a three-year spec to one year. The state agreed to dismiss the remaining charges.

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed not to oppose a four-year prison sentence when Bridges is sentenced on May 21.

According to court documents, Lima police officers heard multiple gunshots coming from what they believed to be an automatic weapon on the evening of April 3, 2017. Moments later a 9-1-1 call was received from Kenneth Delatte, who said he was lying in his bed at the residence at 508 Hope Street when a bullet went through his wall and struck him in the hand.

Investigators found several spent shells in front of a residence at 1232 Hughes St. Inside the house police found several individuals, including Bridges. Police located two firearms, including an AK-47 automatic rifle, inside a vehicle on the property.

According to court documents, statements from persons inside the home revealed that Bridges was outside the residence and saw what he believed to be “Northside gang members” across the courtyard. He believed they had guns, the witnesses reportedly told police.

A search of a cell phone belonging to a cousin of Bridges revealed a text that said, “they just tried to shoot at Marv and they shot back; too many police, don’t call.”
