Waynesfield Raceway Park points competition tight

WAYNESFIELD — The points chase continues Saturday night at Waynesfield Raceway Park.

All five weekly classes return with just two points nights remaining in the 2017 season. Saturday’s program will be headlined by the Performance Powder Coating AMSA Mini Sprints running for a $600 to win payday. The Mini Sprints will be going without wings for the final time in 2017. The points battle is tight coming into the weekend with the top three drivers all within 15 points of one another. Brad Strunk holds the lead by six against Chris Bounds and 15 points over Anthony Haas. Haas comes into the weekend after picking up his first win of the season last weekend.

The Quest Federal Credit Union Non Wing Sprints, Satellite Connections UMP Modifieds, Block Insurance Tough Trucks, and Indian Lake Outfitter Compacts will also be on the program. Like the Mini Sprints, the Non Wings and Compacts come into the weekend with tight points battles. In the Non Wing standings, four points separate the top three. Drew Rader leads by three points over Kyle Simon and four points over last weekend’s feature winner Luke Hall. Simon comes into the weekend the only one of the three drivers to not pick up an A-main victory on the season. In the Compacts, Justin Durflinger leads the standings with 551 points. Brandon McDaries, who was on a winning stream early in the season, sits second, four points back. Nick Glasgow is third, 13 points behind Durflinger.

Adult general admission is $12. Those ages 11-15 years old are admitted for $6 with everyone under the age of 10 admitted for free. Pit passes are $25. Pit side gates open at 4 p.m.; grandstands at 5 p.m. Cars hit the track for hot laps at 6 p.m. with the first green flag of the night flying at 7 p.m.

The rescheduled Summer Sprint Sizzler will take place during Labor Day weekend on Sunday, Sept. 3. The event will feature four divisions of sprint car racing including the NRA Sprint Invaders, F.A.S.T 410 & 305’s, and the Waynesfield Mini Sprints.
