Cowboys release Dysert after back injury

DALLAS — Ada’s Zac Dysert has been released by the Dallas Cowboys, who said he needed surgery for a herniated disk in his back.

The former Ada High School and Miami University standout was competing to be the Cowboys’ No. 3 quarterback when he was apparently injured while performing a simple, everyday motion.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram quoted Dallas head coach Jason Garrett as saying Dysert said he “reached down behind him for something and something wrenched in his back.”

The Cowboys were the seventh NFL team for Dysert since he was selected by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL draft after breaking several of Ben Roethlisberger’s records at Miami University.

He spent two seasons in Denver, where he was on the 53-man roster as a rookie. Since then he has signed with the Chicago Bears, Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and the Cowboys.
