Roundup: Bluffton splits college softball doubleheader

ALBION, Mich. — After dropping the opener 5-4, the Bluffton softball team was able to get a split in its Saturday doubleheader by winning the second game 8-1.

In game one, Makenzie Schmidt had three hits, Jose McElroy had a double and a home run and Brittany Huff had a pair of hits for the visiting Beavers. McElroy had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI, Mercedes Burns had three hits and Courtney Jasinski had a pair of hits.

CLERMONT, Fla. — The University of Northwestern Ohio improved to 10-2 with the eight-inning victory.

Bluffton swept

BLUFFTON — The host Beavers took to Memorial Field to face off against Wilmington College in their home opener. The Beavers couldn’t muster up much offense as they took a 1-0 loss in game one and a 3-1 setback in game two, dropping to 8-4 on the season.

In the opener, Bluffton’s Brantley Curnette allowed no runs, three hits and no walks while striking out three over eight innings. Jacob Latkofksy had a pair of hits for Bluffton in the second game.
