Due to a scoring discrepancy, the final combined standings reported for this past weekend’s Elk’s Invitational Swim Meet/Western Ohio Aquatic League Championships were incorrect.
Westside Swim & Racket Club won the combined title in the eight-team event with 3,127.5 points with the Wapakoneta Waves coming in second with 3,111.5. Wapak won the boys team championship with 1,686 points followed by Westside (1,325.5). Westside (1,802) was the girls winner with Wapak (1,425.5) finishing second.

Archie Griffin
at fundraiser
LIMA — Two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin will be the special guest at this year’s Lima Senior fundraiser at The Met in downtown Lima at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17.
Griffin will be joined by William White and other Lima Senior/Ohio State greats. Griffin is the father of Lima Senior Coach Andre Griffin.
The cost to attend the Meet and Greet is $20 if purchased prior to the event and $25 at the door. The cost to include a photo with Griffin is $45 presale and $50 at the door.
The night will include heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. To purchase a ticket, contact the Lima Senior Athletic Office at 419-996-3050. All proceeds will benefit Lima Senior Football.

Elida meeting
Any Elida High School student interested in playing golf this season should attend an organizational meeting at Swing Rite at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 27. Physical and paperwork needs to be completed before participation. Practice begins Aug. 1.

Norton receives
scholarship
WESTERVILLE — Otterbein University graduate Caleb Norton, a Bath alum, has been awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship.
The NCAA decides upon and then issues as many as 174 postgraduate scholarships annually. The one-time grants of $7,500 are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
Norton will be applying his scholarship grant to graduate school for physical therapy this coming fall at the University of Dayton.
An allied health major with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, Norton evolved into one of the top baseball pitchers in the Ohio Athletic Conference and left with a pair of all-conference awards, most recently earning second-team honors as a senior. He holds Otterbein records for single-season saves (nine), single-season appearances (34), career saves (22) and career appearances (79), and finished with the second-lowest career ERA in school history (2.79).
Norton’s 34 pitching appearances topped the nation in 2017, while his nine saves were good enough to tie for ninth. The OAC “Scholar Athlete of the Month” for May, Norton was a key member of last year’s OAC regular-season championship team and recently helped the program win its sixth OAC Tournament title. In addition, Norton also started 13 matches for the men’s soccer team as a freshman.
“My coaches, teammates, faculty, trainers and administrators all helped me through the application process and created an extraordinary four years at Otterbein.” Norton said in a news release. “The scholarship helps me afford my education and pursue my dream of becoming a physical therapist. Thank you to the NCAA for choosing me.”
Off the field, Norton served as a Senator for the Student Government, test proctor at the Academic Support Center, “Best of Both Worlds” special needs trainer, Otterbein Animal Coalition volunteer, PR committee member for Westerville Hunger Heroes and holds cross-cultural experiences to Japan (2014) and Costa Rica (2016).
The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage graduate education by rewarding the Association’s most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports.

MASON — JT Thomas (Mercer) had an RBI and Tyler Tolbert (UAB) and Ethan Hurt (Trevecca Nazarene) each had a hit to lead Locos players offensively for the North at Prasco Park on Tuesday night. Four Locos each pitched one inning. Bath grad Colin Gossard (University of Findlay) allowed two hits, a run and no walks, Taylor Wilkes (Kennesaw State) allowed a hit, no runs and no walks while striking out one, Joe Taylor (Kennesaw State) allowed one hit and no runs or walks while striking out two and Joe Gahm (Auburn) allowed a run, two hits and no walks while striking out one.
