College roundup: Bath alum Sullivan receives top conference honor

FINDLAY — University of Findlay senior forward Taren Sullivan has picked up Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Player of the Year accolades in men’s college basketball.

The Bath graduate, who was also selected first team all-conference, averaged 17 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game for Findlay during the regular season. He also shot 53.7 percent from the floor and made 39.5 percent of his 3 point attempts. He has scored 1,503 points during his career at Findlay, the 16th-highest total in school history.

Senior guard Martyce Kimbrough was also named first team all-conference. Kimbrough led the Oilers in the regular season with an average of 18.3 points per game. He also made 92 three pointers and has shot 41.1 percent from long range.

The Lima Central Catholic grad has scored 1,578 points at Findlay, the 12th-highest mark in school history.

Senior guard and Fort Recovery alum Elijah Kahlig was was named honorable mention all-conference.

Six from ONU receive honor

ADA — Six Ohio Northern player have been named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for the 2017-18 season.

Seniors Joey DiOrio, Max Harnett and Alex Sibila, junior Sean Grady and sophomores Caleb Bryan and Austin Wurm each earned the honor for Northern.

Bluffton’s Sheerer, Rowe make 1st team

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University senior women’s basketball players Macey Sheerer and Kaycee Rowe have been named first team all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Sheerer, the most prolific scorer in Bluffton history (1.393 points), made the first team for the third straight year. She also finished her career No. 2 all-time with 760 rebounds/

Rowe, an Allen East graduate, led the HCAC with 15 points per game average and her 8.6 rebounds per game were second in the conference. She wrapped up her career No. 3 on the all-time scoring list with 1,178 points .

Bullimore receives top OAC honor

ADA — Ohio Northern senior Amy Bullimore has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference with the Player of the Year in the voting conducted by the league’s 10 head coaches.

As well as being named the OAC Player of the Year, Bullimore was named first team All-OAC, while junior Jenna Dirksen earned second team All-OAC honors and senior Lindsey Black was named honorable mention All-OAC.

Bullimore finished her career as Ohio Northern’s all-time leading scorer (1,484 points), all-time leading rebounder (891 rebounds) and ranks second all-time at ONU with 174 career blocked shots.

Bullimore, seniors Cheyenne Raker and Courtney Cramer and sophomores Emily Mescher (Marion Local), Jaclyn Yankle and Kaitlyn Hurd all earned OAC Academic honors for the Polar Bears.

ADA — Ohio Northern seniors Maggie Dempster and Kasey Mucher and junior Kierra Watson were named Academic All-OAC.

Award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.
