Locos rained out

LIMA — The Lima Locos and Grand Lake Mariners were scheduled to play a doubleheader on Friday night at Simmons Field but got only to the middle of the fourth inning before rain stopped the first of the two games in a 0-0 tie.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League baseball game was called a suspended game and will be picked up where it was at the time of the postponement, but no rescheduled date was announced on Friday night.

The only hit for the Locos off Grand Lake pitcher Stephen Morrison was a first-inning double by Tyler Tolbert.

Locos pitcher Zach Graveno worked his way out of tough situations in the first and fourth innings.

In the first inning, Grand Lake’s first two hitters reached base on a single and a walk. But with the help of a 6-4-3 double play, the Locos did not allow a run.

In the fourth inning with two out, Malave Bettinger singled and Tucker Linder doubled to put runners on second and third base for the Mariners, but Graveno got Nick Varda to ground out to end the inning.
