Mariners plate 7 runs in 9th to beat Locos

LIMA — Grand Lake broke open a 1-1 game by scoring seven runs in the top of the ninth for an 8-1 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League victory Saturday night against the Locos at Simmons Field.

Joe Aeilts (Illinois State) and Blake Buckman (Louisiana Monroe) each homered for the Mariners. Grand Lake starting pitcher Tyler Hankins (Central Michigan) allowed a run on a homer by Will Kilgore (Georgia State), three hits and a walk while striking out six in a seven-inning outing. Winning pitcher Sam Rice (Ashland) allowed no runs, hits or walks while striking out two in two innings of relief.

Ottawa-Glandorf graduate Brad Croy (Bowling Green) allowed one run, one hit and walked four while striking out five in eight innings of work for the Locos. Teammate Jack Barrie (University of Northwestern Ohio) had a single and a double.
