Junior Golf Association starts season

Wapakoneta’s Blaise Moyler was named to the Division II first-team, all-state squad and teammate Megan Fisher garnered second team honors by the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association.

In Division IV, Columbus Grove’s Teyah Sautter, Crestview’s Sydney Brown and Parkway’s Haley Hawk were first-team selections. Collecting honorable mention honors were Columbus Grove’s Grace Schroeder and Spencerville’s Kara May.

Lima Senior’s Josiah Shoemaker and Caleb Dugan were both named to the Three Rivers Athletic League’s infield first team.

Spartan catcher Jorda Lutz was selected as the second-team all-conference catcher. Collecting honorable mention honors for Lima Senior were D’Niyae Morris, Darius Collins and James Gaines.

Junior golf

LIMA — The Lima Junior Golf Association began its season Tuesday at the par 72 Tamarac Golf Club.

Jill Schmitmeyer had the low round of the day, winning the girls 16-18 division with a 74. Meghan Mulcahy defeated Madilyn Paphanchith in a two-hole playoff for second after each shot a 91.

Jared Hernandez won the boys 16-18 title with a 75. Christian Nartker finished second with a 78.

Carson Harmon was the boys 14-15 winner with a 79 followed by Ethan Ricketts with an 81.

Troy Watson finished atop the boys 12-13 division with a nine-hole score of 45 with Jack Gerker shooting a 47 for second place.

Ellen Naumann had the low score for girls 15 and younger with a 50. Kayla Watkins was second with a 59. Damon Watson was the peewee 11 and younger winner with a 36. Brevin Brandt finished second with a 40. The next LJGA – McDonald’s Junior Series event is Thursday at Hidden Creek Golf Club. Go to web.golfsoftware.net/11146/ for information.

OTTAWA — Josiah Shoemaker had four hits, including two doubles, and an RBI, Kaden Sullivan and Corbin Niese each had a double, two base hits and two RBI, Matthew Bowden had a single, a double and two RBI and Ryan Gossard had two hits for Ottawa.
