Apollo house on auction block

LIMA — If you’re in the market for a new, custom-built, three-bedroom ranch home this year, Apollo Career Center students have built the home just for you.

The 39th annual public auction for the Apollo Career Center house will take place at 10 a.m. June 17. This year’s home, located at 1883 E. Spring Lane at Pond View Estates, is up for auction. The 2,500-square-foot home has been appraised at $260,000.

Mike Sebenoler, carpentry instructor at Apollo Career Center, had carpentry students start on the home the second day of school on Sept. 9. A total of 35 carpentry students worked on the home, plus students from the heavy equipment class, who did the exterior brick work, paved the driveway, and installed all underground utilities for the home.

“The house has a 90-plus gas furnace, and it’s about 96 percent efficient for heating costs, and all the lights are LED,” Sebenoler said. “The kitchen has craft-made cabinets with Zodiac solid surface counter tops and an apron sink.

“All the interior doors are six panels with 3 1/2 inch casing, a full basement with 9-foot walls and a three-car garage. Off of the kitchen is a large sun room with a half bath and a large 12-by-20-foot maintenance-free deck and railing outside.”

Students did a great deal of the work, including all of the framing, the exterior finish, painting and all interior trim, plus the ceramic tile work. Local subcontractors completed the plumbing, heating and drywall.
