ARCHERY

Allen County Archers

The Allen County Archers, at the corner of state Route 117 and Defiance Trail, have monthly shoots planned. A traditional shoot is held the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For details, call Neil Wallace at 567-825-7109.

Columbus Grove

The Columbus Grove Archery Club is playing host to an indoor traditional shoot Tuesday evenings through the spring. Starting times are 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. For more information call Tom Frick at 419-384-3033.

BASKETBALL

Attica

The fourth annual Beast from the East tournament will be held March 10-11 at Seneca East in Attica, Ohio. The tournament will be a three game guarantee and school teams are welcome. Individual awards will be given to the top two teams in each grated. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Seneca East schools. Sign up at www.bestbasketball.net.

Lima

A trip and tickets to the Ohio State at Michigan men’s basketball game at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, is being offered as a fundraiser for the Flag City Honor Flight.

The $60 package includes a game ticket, round trip transportation, sandwiches and snacks, Beverages will be available for $1. Packages will be available on a first come, first served basis, and no refunds will be available within 30 days of the game. Those ages 16 and younger must be accompanied by separate paying adults. Lima Senior graduate Zavier Simpson is a member of the Michigan squad.

Flag City Honor Flight is part of the National Honor Flight Network, serving area veterans. The Flag City hub independently plans, raises funds and transports American Veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit their war memorials at no cost to the veterans. Coaching will be provided by our director of basketball, Jon Cook, who has over 20 years of college, high school, and youth basketball coaching. Delphos

The Delphos Jefferson boys’ basketball and baseball staffs have scheduled the 13th annual Wildcat fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade tournament for girls to be held on Feb. 24 to 25 (Saturday and Sunday) at Delphos Jefferson Schools. There will be separate divisions for each grade level. Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of three games. Entry fee for this event is $125. Games on Feb. 24 will be played morning/early afternoon so that participants can attend their high school girls teams sectional finals that night. There will also be a third-, fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade tournament for boys March 16 to 18 (Friday to Sunday) at Delphos Jefferson Schools. There will be separate divisions for each grade level. Shawnee

The Shawnee Optimist Club will be sponsoring the Pass, Dribble and Shoot Contest on Jan. 28th at the Shawnee High School Lappin Gymnasium. The contest is free with only a simple registration at the door by parent or guardian. It is for girls and boys ages 8 to 13. Everyone gets a free t-shirt. The doors open at 12:45 p.m., registration at 1 p.m., and everyone may have 30 minutes to practice and warm up. Contest begins at 1:30 p.m.

HORSESHOES

The Allen County Horseshoe Pitchers, located at 1815 C Street, have openings in leagues and doubles.

Ohio Northern University women’s lacrosse is playing host to a middle school and high school girls skills clinic Feb. 25 at the Dial Roberson Stadium on the campus of Ohio Northern University. PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is played at Bradfield Center from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. All skill levels are welcome.

Lima

The Lima YMCA is holding open pickleball play from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday (appointment only). Free for YMCA members and $3 per visit for nonmembers or $20 per month for non members (unlimited play). Individuals can register online at limaymca.net.

RUN/WALK

Lima

The first Walk with a Doc will be held Saturday and be a monthly event at the Family YMCA. The walk begins at 9 a.m. During inclement weather the inside Y walking track will be used. If the temperature is above 50 and there is no chance of rain, we will plan on utilizing the Rotary River Walk.

SHOOTING

Lima Sabres

The Lima Sabres have various shooting events. Thursday Trap Practice and League is 4 p.m. weekly. Junior Wednesday morning trap practice is 9 a.m. to noon weekly, weather permitting. For additional information, go to limasabres.com or visit on Facebook.

SOFTBALL

The Lima Umpire Association is offering classes starting Jan. 30. These classes will give participants a OHSAA permit to work spring softball games. The cost is $130 for materials and application fee.The class is being taught by Rolly Weber with more than 40 years of high school and 20 years of college experience. SOCCER

A one-day clinic leading to certification as a U.S Soccer grade 8 referee will be held at the Bath Community Center (Lima), Feb. 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Register at www.ossrc.com. At ossrc.com, click “clinics” on the left sidebar. Search “referees” and “District 5: Sidney”. Follow the instructions for the online training portion and registration. Be sure also to complete concussion training. This MUST be completed prior to class. The clinic is listed four times. Register for all four. For those who wish to also officiate high school games, there is a “Bridge” class that builds on the USSF class. It will be March and 8 at Rhodes State in Lima.
