WAPAKONETA — A Celina man was arrested Monday after a high-speed chase that began in Auglaize County and ended in Sidney. Two passengers in the vehicle were also jailed.
Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said that at about 3:35 p.m. Monday a deputy on routine patrol noticed a vehicle stopped in the middle of Ashland Avenue in Wapakoneta and observed people running around outside the vehicle. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, which sped away. After a short pursuit the vehicle stopped and two of the three occupants got out of the vehicle and were taken into custody.
The driver, however, began to exit but then re-entered the vehicle and sped away. The pursuit then continued into Shelby County, reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, the sheriff said.
Because of the reckless driving — high speeds, running stop signs at dangerous intersections, and at one point driving east in the westbound lane of U.S. Route 33 — the pursuit was terminated by Auglaize County.
The vehicle was followed, and not pursued, by deputies from Auglaize and Shelby counties into the city of Sidney, where it crashed and the third person was taken into custody.
Police officials said the driver of the vehicle, Scott McDonley, 33, of Celina, was injured in the crash and taken to Wilson Hospital in Sidney. After treatment he was taken to the Auglaize County Jail for an outstanding warrant out of Auglaize County and for fleeing and eluding.
Police officers said the other two occupants of the vehicle were Kaylea Beougher, 32, of Celina, and Jeramy Hanjora, 41, of St. Marys. Beougher was arrested for obstructing official business and Hanjora was arrested on a probation violation out of Van Wert County. Hanjora was taken to the Van Wert County Jail and Beougher remained in the Auglaize County jail late Tuesday.
