Miller City, O-G get ACME victories

ACME baseball sectional play has gotten underway in the Lima area.

In District 2, Miller City defeated Leipsic 10-1 and Ottawa-Glandorf topped Columbus Grove 14-2 Thursday night. At 6 tonight, Miller City will play host to Kalida and O-G will play at Holgate. Leipsic plays Grove at 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller City.

In District 5, in the East Sectional at Bath, Elida plays Bath at 10 a.m. and Lima Central Catholic plays Shawnee at 12:30 p.m. The Bath-Elida winner plays Allen East at 3 p.m. Saturday and the LCC-Shawnee victor plays Wapakoneta at 1 p.m. Sunday. In the West Sectional at Crestview on Saturday, St. Marys plays Delphos St. John’s at 10 a.m. with the winner taking on Crestview at 3 p.m. Delphos Jefferson plays Lincolnview at 12:30 p.m. with the winner playing Van Wert at 1 p.m. Sunday.

In District 4, on Saturday at St. Henry, Marion Local plays the hosts at noon with the winner playing Coldwater at 2:30 p.m. Also on Saturday at Parkway, Celina plays Fort Recovery at noon with the winner playing Parkway at 2:30 p.m.

Junior golf

LIMA — Joshah Rager had the low round of the day in winning the boys 16-18 title with a four-over-par 75 at the LuLu’s Diner Open held at Lost Creek Golfers Club. Finishing one shot back were Sam Reed, Jared Miller, Logan Dray and Spencer Stubbs. Reed won the playoff for second.

Jill Schmitmeyer won the girls 16-18 competition with an 83. Madison Harriman was second with an 86.

Ethan Harmon was the boys 14-15 champ with an 83 followed by Nick Fischio with an 87.

Carson Harmon, age 11, moved up to the boys 12-13 division and won with a 1-over-par nine-hole score of 37. Ross Otto won the playoff for second after shooting a 46 along with Jack Gerker, Bryce Cobb and Solomon Smith. Erin Mulcahy was the girls 15 and under winner with a 41 followed by Mary Kelly Mulcahy with a 44.

The next tourney in the Lima Junior Golf Association – McDonald’s Junior Series will be held Thursday at Bluffton Golf Club. Go to web.golfsoftware.net/11146 for more information.

Limaland races

LIMA — Racing returns to Limaland tonight for Firecracker Friday. In action will be the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders, K&N Filters UMP Modifieds and Bud Thunderstocks. The pit gate opens at 4:30 p.m. and the grand stand at 5 p.m. Hot laps start at 6:30 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for those between the ages 0f 11 and 15 with children 10 and younger being admitted for free.
