Three-run third propels Locos to 4-2 road victory

ATHENS — The Lima Locos scored three runs in the top of the third on their way to a 4-2 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League victory Saturday night against Southern Ohio at Bob Wren Stadium.

All three runs in the third were unearned as Lima scored on an outfielder error, balk and wild pitch.

Ryan Cyr (Mississippi State) got the victory, allowing two runs, seven hits and no walks while striking out six in a seven-inning outing. David Nicholas Spear (Mercer) pitched the last two innings, allowing one hit and striking out five to earn the save.

Offensively for the Locos, DayFran Ortiz (UNOH) and Ross Adolph (Toledo) had two hits each.

With the victory Lima (14-5) moved a half game ahead of Grand Lake, which dropped to 13-5 on the season with a 3-1 loss to Licking County, into first place in the league’s North Division.

The Locos will play at Southern Ohio again at 7:05 tonight. Lima will start a four-game home stand at 7:05 p.m. Monday against Grand Lake at Simmons Field.
