Putnam County Farm Bureau to hold water quality bus tour in August

OTTAWA — A project in Putnam County is one of several water quality based projects in the state to receive a grant from the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation this year, the second year in which grants have been awarded.

This project involves an agricultural bus tour of the county, highlighting the various methods used to address water quality issues, such as two-stage ditches. Participants would also see how a working hog farm manages its manure as well as how water quality would affect a hops farm.

Putnam County director Jessica Vandenbroek said the free tour, scheduled for Aug. 13, would include five stops, as well as a free breakfast before the tour. Organizers said they are hoping for 150 participants, but there will be capacity for more.

Information on the tour will be available at the Farm Bureau booth at the Putnam County Fair, running Monday through June 24.
