Solid pitching propels Locos to 4-1 win over Monarchs

FLAT ROCK, Mich. – Lima pitching silenced the Lake Erie bats to help the Locos garner a 4-1 victory over the Monarchs Sunday at Flat Rock Field Sunday.

The Locos improve to 4-2 on the season and Lake Erie falls to 3-5 overall.

Nick Ernst, who picked up his second win of the season, scattered six hits over five innings of work. The Miami University product fanned seven and walked one while giving up one unearned run. Locos pitchers Austin Cox (Mercer), Parker Ruffler (Toledo) and David Spear (Mercer) pitched shutout ball the final four frames. The trio allowed just one hit over the final four innings. Spear picked up the save.

The Locos scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh. Jacob Barnwell (Ohio State), who went 1 for 3 at the plate, drove in a run and scored a run, and Ross Adolph (Toledo) went 1 for 2 and scored a run. Jeremy Johnson (Central Michigan) also drove in a run.

The Locos wrap up their road trip today with a game against Grand Lake at Montgomery Field beginning at 7:05 p.m. and then return home to take on the Licking County Settlers at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday to open a six-game homestand.
