Ottawa tops Sidney in Legion baseball

SIDNEY — Ottawa improved to 5-0 on the season with a 10-2 Legion baseball victory Wednesday night against Sidney.

The Fighting 63rd scored five runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Austin Swift, a single by Ryan Stoller, a two-run single by Brady Laudick and an RBI single by Grant Fuerst.

Corbin Niese had five hits and two RBI for Ottawa. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the first, fourth, sixth and ninth innings.

Pitchers Ryan Stoller, Fuerst and Josiah Shoemaker combined to hold Sidney to one earned run, 10 hits and three walks while striking out seven.

The Fighting 63rd next plays in the Tawa Run Classic where they will open at 6 p.m. Friday against Adrian, Michigan, at Memorial Field in Ottawa.

OTTAWA — After five lead changes in Tuesday’s game at Memorial Field, The Fighting 63rd finally pulled out a win on a two-run double by Austin Swift that scored Brayden Sautter and Corbin Niese.

Swift finished with two hits, including a triple, and five RBI while teammate Jackson Lammers had a hit and an RBI.
