Letter: Great music in our back yard

On May 7, the Lima Area Concert Band presented its first concert of the season at the Elida High School Auditorium. This concert was held there because of a scheduling conflict with the Allen County Civic and Convention Center. The auditorium in Elida is a very nice performance space and the cooperation of the administration, the band director, the custodian and the technical assistants was of top quality.

The band gave a wonderful concert playing “Music from the Movies” along with the featured soloist Professor Hennning Schroeder of Ohio Northern University. I’ve been associated with the band for many years and it continues to become more professional all the time because of the quality of musicianship and the outstanding leadership of John Hill, conductor.

The cost of a ticket is a mere $15 — a real value for this quality of program. The program is often very entertaining and family friendly. The Lima Area Concert Band will give its annual “Salute to Sousa” concert at 7:30 p.m., June 18 at the Civic Center in downtown Lima. You can go to www.limaareaconcertband.org for further information and to buy tickets for the concert. I invite everyone to enjoy the Lima Area Concert Band throughout this season. It is truly “World Class Music In Your Own Back Yard.”
