31 Delphos organizations get money

DELPHOS — The Arnold C. Dienstberger Foundation awarded 31 organizations Tuesday with a total of $315,000.

Both schools in Delphos, the Delphos Senior Citizens Center, the Police and Fire departments, the Delphos Canal Museum, the Delphos Museum of Postal History and the parks were among the organizations that received money, said Rick Miller, a trustee with the foundation.

The money dispersed this year brings the total to more than $5.5 million given out since 1998 to Delphos nonprofit organizations, Miller said.

Dienstberger is a former Delphos businessman who sold two nursing homes and put the money from the sale into a fund to help organizations in the Delphos area, Miller said.

Each year, organizations submit requests for funding, which is reviewed by the eight trustees with the foundation. Amounts and organizations are chosen based on need, Miller said.

“It’s nice that we live in a small community and it’s nice we are able to give back through efforts like this,” Miller said.
