ELIDA — Elida High School parent/teachers conferences will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16. To schedule an appointment, call the guidance office at 419-331-4115.

Old School Tech Night returns

LIMA — Lima North Middle School is asking people to gather up “old school” technology items such as floppy disks and 8-tracks and bring them to school.

North will hold its second Old School Technology Night at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the school gymnasium. The items will be on display to show students the growth and history of technology.

Prizes, including “Star Wars” passes, will be given out in the following four categories: Oldest, most unusual, most entertaining, and most practical. Those attending can test their NBA Live 16 or Mario gaming skills on a jumbo television screen.

ABC Warehouse will offer an employee discount on any electronic item purchased by anyone attending the event. Customers must bring an Old School Technology Night flier with them.

Elks Hoop Shoot winners announced

LIMA — The 44th-annual Elks Hoop Shoot was held Saturday with five area schools participating. The Elks Hoop Shoot is the national free-throw shooting contest for boys and girls ages 8 through 13. The local first-place winners will compete in the District Hoop Shoot on Jan. 10 in Findlay. Winners will advance to the state, regional, and national Hoop Shoot competitions.

The local winners were Delaney Hurst, Heidi Keller, Lydia Falke, Owen Sensabaugh, Carter Ringwald and Joshua Henline, all of Spencerville.

Allen County Chess League seeks participants

LIMA — Any student in grades three through 12 who is interested in learning and playing chess may join Kenneth Malcolm at Lima Community Church for the inaugural meeting of a new chess league. Parents, grandparents and friends of participants are also welcome.

The meeting will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Lima Community Church, Room 401, 2945 N. Cole St. RSVPs can be made by emailing Malcolm at [email protected], or Judy Chaffins at [email protected].

Participants are encouraged to bring their own chessboard, though some will be available on site.

Lima Catholic schools to host talent show

LIMA — The Lima Catholic Schools Talent Spectacular will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 in the old gym at Lima Central Catholic High School.

The Talent Spectacular, sponsored by the LCC Teen Leadership Class, will feature talent from all the Lima Catholic schools, including singers, dancers, musicians, comedians and more.

There is a $5 donation per person and all are welcome to attend.

DECA students teach financial literacy

LIMA — Three Lima Senior High School DECA students have spent the past eight weeks teaching Lima West Middle School students about making sound financial decisions and saving for the future.

The financial literacy program, designed by the DECA students, will finish up Thursday with a culminating project. The session will begin at 11:05 a.m. and conclude at 11:50 a.m. in Dawn Hedrick’s classroom.

The DECA marketing students are Reghan Winkler, Jaden Burk and Chase Barnett. They have been working with 13 West students, teaching them how to save and budget money, and encouraging them to start saving for college sooner than later.

The DECA students will use the financial literacy program in a competition this year.

West to celebrate parents

LIMA — Lima West Middle School will host a Parents’ Day Celebration Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday in the school gymnasium. According to a news release, the luncheon is designed to thank parents for their support of their children and the school.

Parents can purchase a school lunch and eat with their children. Parents are encouraged to check with their children to see when they eat lunch each day. There will be free cake and punch, as well as live entertainment and door prizes. Pictures of parents with their children will be taken and displayed in the school.

This event is being sponsored by the Mental Health & Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties. Michael Schoenhofer will give parents tips on how to stay stress free during the hectic holiday season.
