Empty Stocking: Mother of 6 needs help for Christmas

LIMA — Destiny has been out of work for most of this year after she delivered triplets to add to the three children she already had.

She’s staying with her mother while waiting to get her own place and a job. Destiny has no income and is fortunate her mother works and has enough money to support her and her children.

It’s a crowded house but her mother is happy to help. Destiny, however, doesn’t want to rely on her mom forever and wants to get back to work.

“I’m looking for a job, it’s just the hours and me, having the infants and three kids,” she said.

The triplets, Jana, Terri and Ken, all 6 months, are too young to ask for gifts but Destiny wants to get them something.

But her older children, Holly, 12, Lori, 6, and Tony, 10, have told their mom what they would like if they could get presents. Holly is into art-related things such as books and items to do her nails, Destiny said.

Lori likes Barbie dolls.

“She loves to dress up,” Destiny said.

Her son, Tony, likes video games, she said.

But as it stands her children may not receive Christmas this year unless Destiny gets help. That help is hard pressed to come from her mother because her mother is supporting eight people. She also has six other grandchildren, which makes it hard to get everyone a Christmas present.

Destiny’s children have always had Christmas. She does not want 2015 to be remembered in her family as the year without Christmas.

Destiny is not married and does not receive child support, she said.
