Two inured in crash on I-75 south of Van Buren

VAN BUREN — The Findlay Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol continues to investigate a two-vehilce injury crash that occurred at 1:18 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 75 just south of Van Buren at the state Route 613 exit.

According to the report, Utoria Holt, 38 of Marysville, Tennessee, was driving north on I-75 in a 2002 Buick Regal when she lost control of her vehicle and ran off the left side of the road and struck the concrete median wall. As she struck the wall and came to a rest in the left hand lane, a 2011 Freightliner driven by Gary Hurst, 57, of Brownstown, Michigan, swerved out of the left lane to avoid her. Hurst lost control and ran off the right side of the road and struck the guardrail. Hurst then re-entered the road and struck Holt’s vehicle. Hurst then traveled off the left side of the road and struck the concrete median wall. Hurst overturned on top of the median wall. The trailer was blocking both northbound lanes upon coming to rest.

Hurst had minor injuries from the crash and was treated at the scene for his injuries. Holt was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay by Hanco EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

Holt was cited for failing to maintain control of her vehicle and operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Holt’s vehicle was heavily damaged and towed from the scene by Mac and Bob’s Towing. Hurst’s semi was heavily damaged and towed from the scene by VJ’s Towing.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and Allen Township Fire Department assisted at the scene. The northbound lanes of I-75 were closed for approximately three hours while the scene was being cleared. The incident remains under investigation.
