Community, social media grieve for Lima crash victim

LIMA — A two-vehicle accident that left a young Lima woman dead has garnered a large response on local social media.

Amber Gemlick, 21, was killed when her vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer Saturday at the intersection of Breese Road and state Route 65.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at 12:18 p.m. Saturday, Gemlick was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 sedan eastbound on Breese Road when she failed to yield at the state Route 65 intersection. Her vehicle was hit on the passenger side by a northbound 2010 Peterbilt by Douglas Holcomb, 41, of Marengo. The impact pushed Gemlick’s vehicle off the side of the road, where it overturned.

Gemlick was taken by Perry Township EMS to Lima Memorial Health System in critical condition. She died Sunday night as a result of her injuries. Holcomb was taken to Lima Memorial with non-life-threatening injuries, where he was treated, then released.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Gemlick, a 2012 Shawnee graduate, was an employee at Olive Garden, according to her Facebook page, which features a cover photo of her 1-year-old daughter, Addison. A large number of messages of condolence have since flooded her timeline, along with a GoFundMe account set up to help pay for her funeral expenses.

“Rest in peace, beautiful woman,” Ashley Comer wrote. “My prayers are with your sweet little girl and all of those close to you.”

“You are not suffering and your beautiful legacy will continue with your daughter and your family. ” Temi Omitowoju wrote. “Such a kind heart. I will never forget.”

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lima Community Church.
