Letter: Medical marijuana needed for family

The ads for legalizing marijuana are real people with debilitating illnesses and disorders. It is entirely true that a young child can have two thousand seizures in a day. There are thousands of kids in Ohio with varying numbers of seizures daily that need access to this plant.

I would like to introduce you to my daughter and her family, Chad, Nicole and Lucy Scholten. Lucy has intractable epilepsy. That means that pharmaceuticals have not helped reduce hundreds of seizures daily. The side effects from these drugs are as bad as the seizures. She has tried eleven different drugs in various combinations, a ketogenic diet and had a Vagus nerve stimulator implant. She has exhausted all her options.

Except one. There is a promising plant that she could try. If she lived in a different zip code. Here is a link to their very real and absolutely true story.

Please take the time to read about Lucy. Then go to the polls and help her have a chance at a better life. Please vote Yes on 3 and No on 2.
