Letter: Join the fight for WBGU-TV

You may have heard the recent news that Bowling Green State University is considering the possibility of shutting down their PBS broadcasting station, WBGU Channel 27, in order to sell its electronic spectrum. We are writing to BG alumni who reside in the region to ask that you support the continuation of WBGU for the valuable educational and cultural programming which it offers to all of us.

We ask that you engage immediately to prevent WBGU from going dark.

You can do so in one of several ways:

1. Attend and speak at one of the three public forums that are being held in the region.

• Findlay, July 29 at 7 p.m. at Owens Community College, Community Wellness building.

• Lima, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at Rhodes State College, Keese Hall.

• Bowling Green, late August, date, time and place to be determined.

2. Write a letter or email to BGSU President Mary Ellen Mazey and to the Board of Trustees c/o Dr. Patrick Pauken, Board Secretary.

• 220 McFall Center, BGSU, Bowling Green, OH 43403

c. [email protected]

3. Use your social media to express your support for WBGU, and include messges for Dr. Mazey via her Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bgsupresident) and Twitter (@PresidentMazey) accounts.

The communities of our region have been well served by WBGU public broadcasting services for more than 50 years. The potential that we would lose this service permanently represents an enormous loss to the quality of life of more than two million persons. Please step up and state your concerns and voice your support for WBGU’s continued operation and service.

Thank you for your consideration.

— Lima Mayor David Berger, Bowling Green Mayor Richard A. Edwards, Findlay Mayor Lydia L. Mihalik.
