ADRIAN, Mich. — Ohio Northern’s Seth Transue won the 133-pound weight class and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler to lead Ohio Northern at the 2020 NCAA Division III Central Regional Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the Merrilat Center.
Transue and Cash Thompson clinched spots in the NCAA III Championships March 13-14 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by virtue of their top-three finishes.
The top three placers in each of the 10 weight classes qualified for the NCAA III Championships.
Third-seeded Transue won 3-1 in sudden victory over top-seeded Charles Nash of Baldwin Wallace in the finals.
In all, ONU had wrestlers place in eight of the 10 weight classes.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bluffton saw its 2019-20 season come to an end when the No. 11 Transylvania University Pioneers rolled to a victory in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. Bluffton finished with a 14-13 mark, while the Pioneers improved to 24-2.
Brianna Gillig led the Beavers with 15 points and seven rebounds. TJ Mills career came to an end with 13 points.

at OAC event
MARIETTA — Nate Dean and Sam Krabacher paced the Ohio Northern during the final day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships inside Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Dean took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.09 — a new school record — and Krabacher crossed second in the 800-meter run, boasting a time of 1:59.53.
Northern finished fourth as a team, tallying 76 points. Mount Union claimed first with 214 points, while John Carroll and Ohio Northern rounded out the top three with 148 and 136 points, respectively.
Sophomore Andrew Buderer joined Dean and Krabacher, as All-OAC honorees. Buderer won the pole vault Friday, and Dean also logged a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash Friday.

Polar Bears finish
5th in OAC meet
MARIETTA — Ohio Northern’s Kayla Silva had a busy and fruitful Saturday during the final day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships inside Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. She crossed fourth in a pair of races to pace the Polar Bears to a fifth-place finish with 59 team points.
Mount Union won the meet, racking up 170.5 points, while Otterbein and Baldwin Wallace rounded out the top three with 151.5 and 136 points, respectively.
Silva started her day in the 55-meter dash where she recorded a time of 7.34. She earned her second fourth in the 200-meter dash where she clocked in at 26.13.
Junior Megan Wright earned a spot on the podium and an All-OAC honor, placing third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:30.75. Wright and Maggie Krause — who won pole vault — represented ONU’s athletes who earned All-OAC recognition.

LIMA — Four University of Northwestern Ohio have been recognized by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
Nathan Lessing was chosen to the all-conference first team and Lima Senior graduate Elijah Pughsley was selected to the second team.
Lessing and guard Tanner Eubank were named to the all-academic team. Eubank was also chosen to the Champions of Character Team and head coach Caleb Williams was named as the WHAC’s Champion of Character Coach.

Marietta College’s Tim Kreeger, a Delphos St. John’s graduate, has been named second team All-Ohio Athletic Conference in voting conducted by the conference’s 10 head coaches.

Fort Recovery graduate Tori Lennartz was named to the first team along with the all-academic team. Jada Haines and New Knoxville grad Erin Scott were selected to the all-freshman team. Ronja Orpo was chosen to the Champions of Character Team.
