Roundup: Shawnee moves to 19-0 in boys hoops

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — George Mangas had 26 points as Shawnee improved to 19-0 on the season Saturday night with a 73-43 boys high school basketball victory against Fort Recovery.

Tyson Elwer had 18 points and John Barker scored 15 also for Shawnee. Derek Jutte had 11 points for Fort Recovery (14-4).

MIDDLE POINT — Ethan Post had 18 points and Tyler Schwieterman scored 12 for Coldwater (9-10). Aaron Cavinder had 17 points and Collin Overholt scored 10 for Lincolnview (10-9).

MCGUFFEY — Connor Sanders (18), Quinn Sanders (14) and Jackson Rohrs (11) each scored in double digits for USV (14-6). Tommy Stauffer had 14 points and Carson Houck scored six for C-R (7-11).

VAN WERT — Owen Treece had 32 points and Keaton Brown and Jake Hilleary each scored 11 for the host Cougars (6-13). Carter Ontrop had 13 points and Matt Bertke and Bennett Gels each scored eight for the Redskins (10-10).

St. Marys 47, Minster 39

MINSTER — LeTrey Williams (14), Ethan Steger (13) and Austin Parks (11) each scored in double digits for the visiting Roughriders (16-3). Trent Roetgerman had 12 points and Eric Schmidt scored 11 for the Wildcats (12-7).

Wapakoneta’s Danilo Martinelli (22.24 seconds) and Nate Miller (22.57) were first and second respectively in the Division II 50 freestyle. Also for the Redskins, Nate Metzger was first (49.45), Miller was second (49.63) and Alex Honigford was third (49.66) in the 100 freestyle, Gavin Sutton was first in the 100 butterfly (57.96), Nate Metzger was second (1:48.81) and Honigford was third (1:49.13) in the 200 freestyle, Aidan Schneider was third in the 100 backstroke (1:05.44)

The 200 freestyle relay team of Martinelli, Honigford, Metzger and Miller finished first (1:30.25), Martinelli, Honigford, Metzger and Miller won the 400 freestyle relay (3:22.16), and the 200 medley relay team of Sutton, Honigford, Aidan Schneider and Cameron Reichenbach was second (1:47.22)

In the girls competition, Wapakoneta’s Kalie Miller was third in the Division I 50 freestyle (24.98). Miller, Ainsley Bump, Elizabeth Gesler and Paige Schneider were third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.82).

Lima Sectional

Celina’s Kenzie Conn finished first in the girls 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke at the Lima Family YMCA.

Conn was also a member of the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams along with Claire Gass, Emma Guggenbiller and Zoe Rolfes.

Ada’s Klava Katayama (50 freestyle and 100 butterfly) and New Bremen’s Annie Jiang (200 and 500 freestyles) also each won two individual events.

Gass (100 breaststroke) and Bath’s Payton Meffley (200 IM) also were individual event winners and New Bremen’s

Gia Johnson, Katie Flemming, Taylor Paul and Ashton Heitkamp teamed up to wini the 200 freestyle relay.

On the boys’ side, St. Marys’ Kyle Lucas was first in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. He also joined Xander Spees, Charlie Krebs and Austin Hertenstein in winning the 200 medley relay.

Celina’s Zach Haines (200 freestyle) and Isaiah Watson (50 freestyle), Shawnee’s John Briggs (100 butterfly) and Evan Patterson (100 freestyle) and St. Marys’ Jace Deubler (500 freestyle) and Xander Spees (100 backstroke) each won individual events.

Briggs, Patterson Charles Spyker and Benjamin Curl won the 200 freestyle relay and Elida’s BJ Carder, Koby Page, Jon Frueh, Garrett Simmons were first in the 400 freestyle relay.

The names of those qualifying for districts should appear on ohsaa.org sometime today.

Ayersville Sectional

Ottawa-Glandorf’s Sydney Porinchok won the 100 butterfly and breaststroke. O-G’s Marissa Beckett (200 IM) and Maddie White (100 backstroke) also were individual race winners.

O-G won the 200 medley relay and Coldwater was first in the 200 freestyle. Team members’ names were not reported.

On the boys’ side, Van Wert’s Jayden Welker won the 200 IM.

D-II duals regional

ST. PARIS — Wapakoneta defeated Greenville 45-33 and St. Marys topped Rossford 60-18 in opening round matches. Wapak then lost 57-18 and St. Marys fell 45-23 to Wauseon in the quarterfinals.

Graham Local defeated Wauseon 50-27 in the final.
