COLUMBUS — Former Ohio State football receivers coach Zach Smith will spend 19 days in jail for violating a civil protection order in May 2019.
According to court records, Smith received a 180-day sentence, with 160 suspended and one day credit for time served. Smith will also serve three years on community control and was fined $750.
Smith began serving his sentence Friday, after being booked into Delaware County Jail at 3:41 p.m., per online court records.
Smith was arrested on May 9, 2019, for violating an order filed by his ex-wife, Courtney Carano, in July 2018.
Ohio State fired Smith in July 2018 in the wake of domestic abuse allegations. That case was central to an eventual three-game suspension for former head coach Urban Meyer and a three-week suspension for OSU athletic director Gene Smith (no relation).
